The standard setup allows the owners of financial indicators to use their professional judgment to allocate a traffic light (green, yellow or red) to each reporting period.
The “automatic colour choice” feature allows you to pre-define the traffic light criteria for financial indicators, depending on the level of variance of actual spend (or revenue) from budget. The criteria can be defined in percentage and/or currency terms:

Example Automatic Colour Criteria for Opex, when BLUE is enabled:

The criteria specified in this example mean that, for OPEX spend, if
overspend is
less than 2% of budget AND $25,000 => BLUE
equal to, or greater than, 2% AND $25,000 => GREEN
equal to, or greater than, 4% AND $50,000 => YELLOW
equal to, or greater than, 6% AND $50,000 => RED
underspend is
less than 2% of budget OR $25,000 => BLUE
equal to, or greater than, 2% OR $25,000 => GREEN
equal to, or greater than, 4% OR $50,000 => YELLOW
equal to, or greater than, 6% OR $75,000 => RED
Note:
If you only want to specify percentage criteria, use "AND" and a blank $ field.
